Canada's queen of the charts, Avril Lavigne, rocketed to triple platinum certification in under two months, with her newly released album "Under My Skin" (BMG Canada Inc.). Right behind her is the maven of mood, Diana Krall, with her CD "The Girl In The Other Room" (Universal Music), which was certified double platinum.
Quebec artist Lhasa De Sela, with her album "The Living Road" (Distribution Select), Andrée Watters, with her CD "AW" (BMG Canada) and soul band Corneille's "Parce Qu'on Vient De Loin" (Distribution Select) reached gold status (50,000 units).
DVD certifications were high in July, with veteran rockers The Rolling Stones' "Four Licks" (TGA), which attained double diamond certification (200,000 units) and "Toronto Rocks," by Various Artists' (Warner Music Canada), which reached diamond (100,000 units). Elvis lives with his DVD "Elvis: '68 Comeback Special" (BMG Canada) hitting triple platinum, French punk-rockers Bérurier Noir's DVD "Même Pas Mort" (DEP Distribution Exclusive Ltée) certified platinum and French Canadian instrumentalist Richard Abel's "Soirée Romantique / A Romantic Evening" (Distribution Select) achieved gold.
The Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) is a non-profit trade association representing the interests of Canadian companies that create, manufacture and market sound recordings. CRIA's membership includes the major record companies, leading independent labels, and all manufacturers of compact discs and tapes. In all they represent 95 per cent of the sound recordings that are manufactured and sold in Canada.
