The Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) today announced new sales levels required for Gold/Platinum certification of CDs in Canada. Effective for albums released on or after May 1, 2008, sales required for Gold and Platinum certification will be 40,000 and 80,000 units, respectively. Previously, the CD sales thresholds were 50,000 for Gold and 100,000 for Platinum. The changes follow the announcement by CRIA of a new Gold/Platinum awards program for mobile ringtones. The new program celebrates the most popular ringtones in Canada as measured by sales. "Together, these changes reflect the rapidly evolving ways in which consumers buy and enjoy music," said CRIA President Graham Henderson.
